Angelorum, directed by Byron “Ed’ Franklin, is a semi-professional
chorus devoted to the propagation and continued use of the traditional
music of the Church in the context of its liturgy. (Read
more about the origins of the Chorus)
Historically speaking, the Book of Common Prayer of 1549 - along
with the King James translation of the Bible, Coverdale's translation
of the Psalms and the plays of Shakespeare - is credited with establishing
the English language as we know it and is renowned for its beauty
and poetic grace. The Book of Common Prayer of 1662, similar to
the 1928 Prayer Book used in the United States until 1979 when it
was replaced by a revised service book, is still the officially
recognized Prayer Book for the Church of England.
The
language of the Prayer Book has inspired some of the greatest choral
music written for the Church in the past 450 years and remains a
valuable source for contemporary composers.
The
Artistic Director for Chorus Angelorum is Ed Franklin. He can be
